The 2b stamp is shaved at base, otherwise the two stamps are in very fine condition.While the single stamp 5b franking for such items is the norm, this low values two stamp franking is scarce and desirable. The cover is endorsed at top "De la comuna Butculesti" ("From the village of Butculesti"). The item is in fine/very fine condition. Not many classic franked items of rural post have survived, rare. 81140 Mi. 20 imageOverfranked cover sent abroad: 18 bani red on yellowish paper, a very fine item showing a distinct "back of the neck" retouch, cancelled with a clear Turnu Severin 11/7 (1870) cds on cover to Orsova, Austria-Hungary. Due to a small anomaly that arose when domestic rates changed in January 1868 and foreign rates were established in April 1869, the domestic letter rate of 18 bani was higher than the rate for mail sent to nearby border destinations in Austria-Hungary, which was set at 15 bani. This discrepancy lasted for about a year and a half, when the domestic rate was reduced to 10 bani. This cover is franked with an 18b stamp when the rate was only 15b, resulting in an overfranking of 3 bani. Few such covers are known. A rare item in very fine condition.(Image 1) (Image 2)

81141 Mi. 20 imageEarly Date cover: 18 bani pink, a nice example with clear margins all around, cancelled by a clean strike of the grille marking in black, and bearing alongside the retouched rural cds used in the town of Oltenita dated 4/2 (1868), with arrival Bucharest 5/2 on reverse. The stamp was issued on 1st of February 1868, therefore was used on the 4th day, the earliest date we encountered. K. Dragomir lists in the 1974 catalogue as 'early date' an item from 10/2.
