Steuer (2000) Note: The addressee Clemens Denhardt was an early East Africa entrepreneur. In 1885, the Denhardt brothers signed an agreement with Zanzibar Sultan Ahmed bin Fumo Bakari for the purchase of 25 square kilometres near Lamu. In 1890 this agreement was revoked because of the Treaty of Heligoland ceded German interests in Kenya, Uganda and Zanzibar to England.
