64 C imageDATE UNKNOWN / Cover from Kingston, Jamaica, to Congress Park (Brookfield), Illinois, franked with a 1938 3d (SG 126). Sealed with resealing tape showing purple circle Examiner’s Number ‘6’ (4mm), an example of Jamaica’s scarce Type I censor tape. These early provisional labels, inscribed in two lines ‘OPENED BY / CENSOR’ in orange or red on white or azure paper, were used before the standardized P.C. 90 labels arrived.

65 C image? JUNE 1940 / Kingston, Jamaica, to New York City. Franked with 1938 3d (SG 122) and 9d (SG 129), sealed with an early Jamaican Type I censor label. These first labels carried no printed examiner numbers; instead, numbers were hand stamped separately on the cover in purple or violet ink, enclosed within small circles, recorded up to ‘27.’

This example shows purple Examiner’s Number ‘8’ (4mm). Used prior to the introduction of standardized P.C. 90 tapes, these provisional labels are scarce and highly desirable censorship varieties. Fine to Very Fine. Est $40-$50 (Image) (image2) (All Images)

The P.C. 90 labels were introduced to replace Jamaica's earlier provisional censor tapes, providing a standardized format for British wartime censorship.

Franked with a pair of 4d (SG 127), tied by Kingston cds. Censored with Jamaican Type IIb label, showing smaller black ‘OPENED BY EXAMINER D./ 8844’.
