126   imageOFFICIAL ANNOUNCEMENT OF PSNC MAIL CARRYING - IN COMPLETE 'MORNING POST' OF 9th MAY 1840; Complete 9 May 1840 8-page issue of 'The Morning Post' broadsheet Newspaper (some largely internal stain spots) including the important Page 1 Column 1 announcement of the impending departure of the new PSNC vessels 'Peru' & 'Chile' for the Pacific coast of South America and noting that the ships "are intended for the conveyance of mails, passengers and merchandise... They will be the means of establishing a settled communication between the various ports in the Pacific...", etc. Also includes a number of comments on the Post Office and even the Mulready design; "Sir Robert Peel wished to know whether some diminution could not be made in the number of the beautiful figures that adorned the Post Office covers, in order to afford a little more room for the address. The Chancellor of the Exchequer thought such a diminution might be made, but he did not seem very anxious to detract in any way from the excellence which he said the persons selected to judge of the designs had declared to belong to the new cover as a work of art."!
