CHILE/URUGUAY - THE UNIQUE[?] & SPECTACULAR RED CROWNED "PACIFIC STEAM NAVIGATION COMPANY */MONTEVIDEAN/AGENCY" CACHET COVER;
Remarkable and colourful 12 Jan. 1870 E from "Joaquin Rigau, Valparaiso" (filing note) to Buenos Ayres franked by two 1867 10c Blues with light cork cancels (seemingly minutely tied at right) with a fine small 2-ring "CORREIO/MONTEVIDEO" cds (26
Jan.) alongside, but to the left of that also having a very fine large red crowned "PACIFIC STEAM NAVIGATION COMPANY */MONTEVIDEAN/AGENCY" cachet (crossed by horizontal filing crease). Carried from Valparaiso to Montevideo and trans-shipped there for
despatch on to Buenos Aires. It seems that this red PSNC Montevideo cachet was applied as a kind of Forwarding Agent mark to authenticate the trans-shipment via the Post Office there. Brian Moorhouse had not recorded any other example of this
wonderful PSNC marking. With Brian Moorhouse Cert. (2007). [Ex Buki & from Corinphila's 7 June 2021 auction; lot 79, realised CHF 4,400 +BP.] Highly important exhibition centre-piece. Cross Reference: CHILE, ARGENTINA (Image) (Image2)
