511   imageCAMPBELTOWN - RARE "STEAM BOAT" MARK ON INGOING COVER FROM KILMARNOCK; 21 June 1830 EL to a distillery in "Campbelton" charged "10" with a very fine "CAMPBELTON/STEAM BOAT" mark (Rob.S3; 1830 only) struck on the front. This "STEAM BOAT"mark is unique to this port and is thought to have been introduced to discourage smuggling by ships' Captains in the Clyde. Sent via Greenock and then on the steamer around Arran to Campbeltown situated on the Kintyre peninsula. Seldom seen on ingoing mail to the port. Exhibition Quality.
