898   imageDEFICIENT POSTAGE/4d/HALF FINE 3d/7d MARK STRUCK IN ERROR ON COVER WITH 4d+6d FRANKING; Unusual and fine 3 Jan. 1866 env. (orange paper) routed "Via Marseilles" to Bombay and correctly franked for the 10d rate by 1865 4d Dull Vermilion (pl.7; SG93/J54)+1865 6d Lilac (pl.5; SG96/J73) both tied by heavy "LEEDS/447" duplexes. The similar colour of the 4d stamps and the envelope suggests that this stamp was not noticed by the P.O. in London at first and a very fine "DEFICIENT POSTAGE 4d/HALF FINE 3d/7d" mark was applied on the front, but then the 4d was noticed and the Postage Due mark crossed through.
