688   imageCOVER WITH DOUBTFUL 1d BLACK + 1d RED FRANKING FROM CARLISLE TO STIRLING; 5 Oct. 1843 EL from the "Wilson & Sons" (tartan manufacturers) of Bannockburn correspondence (the addressees) sent from Carlisle to Stirling via Edinburgh (genuine cds's of all three on reverse); from a 93rd Regiment Major ordering various tartan & uniform items. It now has a 1d Black (Plate 6 SF, 4 good margins) and an 1841 1d Red (?K, 4 good margins) seemingly tied by two fine black Maltese Crosses, but thought to have had both stamps added. [Brandon cert. (2006) states that it was genuine & the 1d Black was Plate 8; BPA cert. (2017) states that the stamps did not belong, the 1d Black was Plate 6, and that the P.S. inside, "Samples enclosed", "is not contemporary".] Offered "as is" (priced for stamps alone) and not returnable; not genuine in our opinion.
