1782   imageISLE OF MULL - TOBERMORY 2d BLUES STRIP OF FIVE COVER + BUNESSAN BLUE UDC STRUCK BENEATH 1d RED OR AS BACKSTAMP; ; 10 Aug. 1852 long env. (edge wear) to Edinburgh franked for the 10d (4oz to 5oz) rate with a good strip of five 1841 2d Blues (QH-QL; the 3 middle stamps are 4m) tied by Tobermory "325" numerals ("TOBERMORY" boxed ds on reverse). Exceptional franking from an offshore island. Plus 12/21 Nov. 1850 E/env. from "Knocknefenaig" or "Kilfinichen" each with 1d Red tied by a faint Aros Numeral; the first with a fine blue "BUNESSAN" UDC struck beneath the stamp (NB; 4m) - showing that Bunessan did not have a stock of stamps but had an account with its Head Office at Aros where the stamp was put on and cancelled. The other cover has a very fine blue "BUNESSAN" UDC on the side-flap (crease; not beneath the stamp). Wonderful matched pair proving that stamp were not always available in village P.O.s.
