1261   imageCOLLECTION OF QV ISSUES 1841 TO 1900 INC. COVERS: Binder housing a collection of mint and used (mostly) line engraved and surface printed issues plus a few interesting covers. Commencing with 1774 EL from Cullen, Scotland addressed to "Jamaica Coffee House" and a second commercial EL from same writer mailed 1778 at Leghorn (Livorno) to London. 3 x 1841 2d blues (1 pen cancelled), 2 pairs 1858 perf. 2d blues, 1841 imperf. 1d reds used (12) plus mint block of 4 and 2 covers, various 1d red 'stars' inc. 1859 cover to France, range of surface printed types to 10/- ultramarine with fine Cardiff cds. Also noting unusual 8d rate from Manchester to Uruguay via Lisbon with franking of 8 x 1d lilacs; 1887-1900 Jubilee range mixe mint & used to 1/- (both), etc. (c.130 stamps & 8 covers) (Image)

State 4A 116x65mm env. printed on grey paper with mainsail inscription "AN[D]/OCEAN/PENNY/POSTAGE", the D of "AND" missing due to wear. State 4 117x69mm env. with mainsail inscription "AN/OCEAN/PENNY/POSTAGE", purposefully recut from "AND" to "AN" and enlarged. Both items unused, with adhesive and embossed flap.
