 LATE USE OF RED MALTESE CROSS & EARLIEST RECORDED USE OF 1841 2d BLUE PLATE 3: 17 Mar. 1841 front and part from Edinburgh to
Arbroath bearing a cut into 2d blue plate 3 KF tied by a lightly struck red MX. Very rare so cancelled. Note: Although black ink came into general use in Feb. 1841 some offices continued to use red. Survivors of this use are rare. This cover is the
earliest known used example of the 2d blue plate 3 with white lines. Ex Dendy Marshall collection and noted in his book. (Image)
