(+ contents - full typed transcript) sent from Richmond (Surrey; cancelled by London SW1 machine cancel) to Southampton by a soldier on leave from France, describing the last week’s Gotha bombing raids over London with another happening as he writes; “…Air bombardments each evening – Saturday’s was the worst of the lot – the noise & the falling shrapnel everywhere was great; it reminded me in a shadowy way of France, especially when the shells screamed through the air – our Erb was in great jeopardy at Putney, they were dropping bombs all round there…The [anti-aircraft] guns have just started again now & the corridor outside our flat is beginning to grow congested with panic-stricken folk…when the guns are booming shrapnel is falling like rain...”. Also inc. c.July 1913 "The Aerial Danger" booklet produced by the "Women's Patriotic Aerial League" in London ref. the possible threats to Britain of German and French military “aerial dreadnoughts” and “dirigibles”.
