Most items have the squadron details and where they were captured. Incs. 1917 3 PCs and a series of letters of flyers taken POW; WWII incs. c.20 other cards of RAF personnel inc. 1943 card from Stalag Luft III where "The Great Escape" took place in 1944 (Lt M.M. CENSORED". GB incs. RAF bases in India, Burma, Malaya, Zambia, etc. with scarce 1957 Sanders Roe SR 53 Jet Rocket sea plane trials on IoW; 1956 July. 20 Canberra P.R. Mk. 7, England to Dakar Trial Flight; 1949 "The Truculent Turtle" flight NY - Plymouth via Lisbon; 1943 letter from Toronto to Sgt. MacLean, Canadian Air Force, Overseas, with "617 SQN" added in pencil. McLean was navigator on one of the Lancasters on the Dambuster raid. Env. soiled and missing adhesive, but good strikes of two Canadian Base Post Office marks in purple on reverse; Australia incs. (with contents, written in Burmese) to a Burmese soldier in Rangoon, redirected to Tokyo after the soldier was captured, but as the language was not known to Japanese censors the letter was returned with boxed purple "RETURNED TO SENDER/LANGUAGE NOT ALLOWED" hs; Feb. 1942 env. to a German POW addressed to Egypt (where he was captured) but no army number included so the addressee could not be found, with ms "not No 10230" and red "NOT INTERNED/IN CANADA." hs on front, and "RETURNED FROM CANADA./REFUSED BY PERSON OF/SAME NAME WHO STATED/IT WAS NOT FOR HIM" hs on reverse, opened & resealed by German censor; an unusual 11 Sep. 1946 env. to Kendal ex London franked KGVI 2½d cancelled by London slogan postmark, slogan reading "RECOVERED P.O.W. MAIL/FROM EUROPE/RECENTLY RECEIVED/BY BRITISH P.O.", an unusual misuse of this cachet and the only example known; plus other similar examples. Also inc. Sep. 1944 PPC to a British POW in Germany from an escaped POW currently in Sweden where he is waiting for a boat back to Britain, with purple "KRIGSFANGEPOST/Service des prisonniers de guerre" hs & boxed purple "Granskad av/SVENSK/censurmyndighet" hs.
