NOTICES" OR "POSTAGE STAMPS" IN NAME OF "ROWLAND HILL", ETC.; Pair of large (c.25x40 cms.; folds with some reinforced damage towards centre of each) "NOVEMBER 1855" P.O. "P.M.G." Notices "to all Postmasters" (Nos. 72 & 73), each with "ROWLAND HILL/Secretary" at the foot. The first (tears affect several words) headed "POSTAGE STAMPS" advising that Postmasters can now obtain Stamps from "the Commissioners of Inland Revenue or from any authorized Vendor" as well as from their Head Office P.O.s. The second (text unaffected by faults) concerns the "Service of Parliamentary Notices through the Post Office" (for which there was a special rate and complex procedures); "The Regulations... laid down still continue in force...", etc. Plus 3 Aug. 1849 2-page P.O. "DAILY PACKET LIST" (now separated pages; very toned and with other minor faults) listing the overseas "PACKET BOATS" arrivals, giving a long list of imminent outgoing Ship Letter vessels to be used by the P.O. to a huge range of countries inc. Falkland Isles, St. Helena, varied Australian ports, W. Africa, Hawaii, etc. and listing all overseas Packet rates (to a huge range of countries). Rare group.
