1347   imageRARE 2-RING "GLENCARRADLE/TARBERT" GUARANTEED POST MARK (IN GREEN) ON COVER WITH 1d IMPERF; 2 Sept. 1846 env. to Edinburgh with a 1d Red (2m; crease) tied by the "321" Tarbert numeral but also having a mainly very fine green distinctive 2-ring "GLENCARRADLE/TARBERT" UDC of the Guaranteed Post to Tayinloan (faint green mileage-removed mark on flap), also having the green boxed "TARBERT" ds and Edinr. arrival cds (3 Sept.) on the back. Plus a small piece with a mainly fine strike of the same 2-ring mark in darker green. Auckland/Stables only recorded this mark from 19 Nov. 1845 to "1846". 1349   imageMADELINE SMITH CANCELLATIONS: Collection of ELs written-up on A4 sheets, all franked by 1d red adhesives tied by 'Madeline Smith' cancellations. The pages are written-up with the back story of Madeline Smith, leading up to and including her trial. Also inc. a number of further (not written-up) 1d red covers displaying 'Madeline Smith' cancellations, plus three items detailing the prevalence of arsenic: a 1912 quote from a wholesale chemist in Alabama detailing the price for "1000 pounds Arsenate of Lead"; 1889 advert for wallpaper "Guaranteed Free From Arsenic"; and a 1894 newspaper article referencing the death of a young girl from arsenic poisoning.
