Duncan - Great Britain Line-Engraved continued...

1841 1d REDS continued...
Lot Catalog No. Descrip Opening
1181   imagePLATE 139 - '(C)I-C(H)' - ON COVER - Oct 1852 printed billhead (filing crease through stamp) to MONMOUTH (cds on the back, along with BRISTOL and GLOUCESTER) franked with a grossly mis-cut 1d red resulting in about one-third of stamp CI (double letter I) and two-thirds of stamp CJ, tied by neat 134 numeral. An extraordinary use, possibly indicating some sort of mechanical separation? Purchased in 2010 for £320. Also another superb large margin 1d red, KI plate 130, for comparison. 1184   imagePLATE 169 - QH - ON COMBINATION IMPERF/PERF 1d RED COVER - Dec. 1854 mourning env. to Old Aberdeen franked unplated C1 1d red tied by London numeral, then redirected to Bromley with 1d red imperf, very close to four margins, placed over most of the original stamp and tied to it and the env. by indistinct Scots numeral, London (2) and "OLD ABERDEEN" cds on the back. Very scarce combination of imperf and perf issues. Cross Reference: 1854-65 1d REDS, REDIRECTED AND TURNED MAIL, SCOTLAND, LONDON POSTAL HISTORY (Image)
