DDSG Agencies in Romania, Giurgevo 1860 (April 27): Entire letter from the DDSG agency in Giurgevo to the Lohner Company in Vienna, struck by "D.D.S.G. / Agentie / Giurgevo" in an elongated oval in blue (Tchilinghirian fig
792), over-struck by WIEN datestamp in black (May 6). Taxed with with manuscript '8' in red crayon and corresponding framed "BFTAX..3 kr. / ZuTax..5 kr. = 8 kr." handstamp in black for Postage Due calculation alongside. This taxation suggest, that
this cover was brought by private means to Vienna and posted there resulting in a local rate of 3 kreuzer with additional 5 kreuzer penalty fee. Horizontal filing fold, nevertheless a rare and fine entire of great postal history interest, the Agency
marking used two years earlier than recorded by Tchilinghirian and from its first year following Gmach (vol I, page 282). This DDSG Agentie handstamp may have simply had the function of a company cachet without any postal function. Signed Holcombe.

DDSG / DSNC Agencies in Romania, Giurgevo 1862 (July 2): Entire letter from Giurgevo to the Theologo Brothers in Galatz, struck by perfect "GIURGEVO 2/7" cds (unlisted in Tchilinghirian or Gmach) in blue, oval "GALATZ 7/VII"
arrival backstamp of the DDSG Agenzia (Tchilinghirian fig 809). A most interesting cover with this elusive datestamp, no indication of prepayment or taxation. Note: This datestamp with the wide distance between GIURGEVO and the circle is unknown by
Tchilinghirian. Gmach describes in vol. I on page 283 a datestamp of comparable design but with Arab figures for the month. Edwin Müller shows this datestamp in his Handbook of the Pre-Stamp Postmarks of Austria and the present strike is obviously
the template for his figure 748 on page 92. Provenance: Collection Edwin Müller (Image 1)

DDSG Offices in Romania, Ibraila 1844: Entire letter from Ibraila to Constantinople, struck by "D.D.S.G. / P. P. / IBRAILA" handstamp in blackish blue (Tchilinghirian fig. 802). A fine strike of this scarce handstamp on cover
from the well-known Zafiropulo correspondence, horizontal file fold not distracting from the appealing appearance of this rare entire letter. Note: Tchilinghirian & Stephen mention that this handstamp was probably manufactured in Constantinople
for fully prepaid covers with markings existing only for the offices in Constantinople, Galatz, Ibraila and Varna, starting in August 1844. The Lloyd Agency and Consular Offices only opened in September 1845 and took over the the deep water services
from the DDSG which restricted its services to the Danube and the route to Odessa. This postmark can be found up to 1865, even as an obliterator on DDSG adhesives. Reference: Köhler sale 239 (1983), lot 5490; Collection Cihangir, Corinphila sale 121
