4106 bof imageFifth transfer printing 1880: Extensive Cancellation Study, comprising nine exhibition pages with over 100 stamps, including singles, pairs, pieces, and three blocks of four, illustrating a wide range of manuscript, circular datestamp, and barred obliterations. A highly detailed and scholarly assembly documenting the complex usage of the 1880 issue, including early circular datestamps from Monrovia with dates ranging from the early 1890s onward, cancelled-to-order material using official Monrovia datestamps (Cockrill: Type CP12), extensive date ranges and multiple strikes, evidence of back-dating and favour cancellations, with examples spanning the 1890's through to 1916-1921 usage, groups showing multiple dates from identical handstamps, suggesting organised CTO production, blocks of four and multiples cancelled with large Monrovia cds, illustrating sheet usage and favour cancellation, a specialised section of barred obliterators, including various bar types (thick, thin, oval and circular forms), attributed by the author as locally applied and not recorded on cover. A small group of forgery or fabricated cancellations, included for study and comparison. Notations referencing research by Philip Cockrill and others, including earliest recorded dates and rarity observations. The collection provides compelling insight into the postal and philatelic handling of the 1880 issue, highlighting the transition from genuine postal use to favour and CTO cancellations, and the scarcity of properly used material. A fascinating and instructive study, ideal for the specialist in Liberian philately or West African postal history (Image 1) (Image 2) (Image 3) (Image 4) (Image 5) (Image 6) (Image 7) (Image 8) (Image 9)

4107 **/*/bof/(*) image1860/80: Liberty Issue specialised study collection. A substantial and highly specialised study of the classic “Liberty” issues from the First through Fifth Transfers, presented on album pages and loose study sheets, with a strong emphasis on reconstruction, plating characteristics, and usage, much of the material originating from or formed in the tradition of Cockrill’s research. The collection comprises a detailed working study, including reconstructed settings of ten and larger multiples, positional pieces, and groupings arranged to illustrate transfer types and plate positions. Many items are mounted on annotated pages, with manuscript notes identifying positions, transfer characteristics, and comparative features, reflecting careful analytical work rather than simple accumulation. The material is predominantly unused, with additional sections devoted to used examples, including a useful and visually interesting study of cancellations and small postmarks, arranged to show types and distribution. Several pages display reconstructed or partial sheets, alongside reference examples of issued stamps and transfer settings, offering insight into the production methods and plate layout of the early Liberia issues. Also included are specialised elements such as Die Proofs (incl. silky paper), colour trial Proofs, imperforates, marginal pieces and positional multiples, together with comparative studies of shades and printings and forgeries. The presence of annotated reconstructions and working layouts suggests the collection was formed with research or exhibition intent, and it retains considerable value as a reference group. A serious and thoughtfully assembled body of material, offering both depth and structure, and providing an excellent foundation for further research or expansion (Image 1) (Image 2) (Image 3) (Image 4) (Image 5) (Image 6) (Image 7) (Image 8) (Image 9) (Image 10) (Image 11) (Image 12) (Image 13) (Image 14) (Image 15) (Image 16) (Image 17) (Image 18) (Image 19) (Image 20) (Image 21) (Image 22) (Image 23) (Image 24) (Image 25) (Image 26) (Image 27) (Image 28) (Image 29) (Image 30) (Image 31) (Image 32) (Image 33) (Image 34) (Image 35) (Image 36) (Image 37) (Image 38) (Image 39) (Image 40) (Image 41) (Image 42) (Image 43) (Image 44) (Image 45) (Image 46) (Image 47) (Image 48) (Image 49) (Image 50)
