1806/1867: Collection of postal markings on stampless mail (about 100 items), comprising domestic mail from the Colonial and Independant Ecuador periods, including both prephilatelic and later handstamps, showing a wide range of fair strikes, mostly on official Court letters. The collection includes a number of scarcer items, including large part of entire bearing framed "RIOBAMBA" straight-line handstamp in red (Harris et
al. Nr. 7, rated 7), also two front covers each bearing red oval "REPUBLICA DE COLOMBIA RIOBAMBA" Debe and Franca markings; 1861 large part of unpaid lettersheet to Loja, endorsed "16" (ounces) and charged "8 (reales), bearing
oval "CUENCA DEBE" handstamp in black (Harris et al. Nr. 6, rated 8); 1862 lettersheet to Loja, bearing large oval "ZARUMA / FRANCA" struck in black, faulty but exceptionnally rare; 1848 large lettersheet to Quito, bearing red "LOJA
FRANCA" oval handstamp (Harris et al. Nr. 6, rated 6); 1831 unpaid lettersheet (separated in half), endorsed "2" (ounces), bearing red "REPUBLICA DE COLOMBIA AMBATO DEBE" large handstamp with pearls (Harris et al. Nr. 3, rated 8).
Some interesting usages throughout with large part of lettersheet to Latacunga, bearing "QUITO DE OFICIO" in red, crossed out in pencil and overstruck with blue "QUITO DEBE", also applied twice alongside. Further items include "Chimbo
Franca" in manuscript and "Chimbo de Oficio" oval handstamp in blue, two entires with "FRANCA QUITO" in red, used during the Gran Colombia period, some later circular datestamps from Quito, red "P.P", and more. An appealing
specialist group, in slightly mixed condition as to be expected (Image 1)
