364 cover image1887 (Feb): New Dies 5 c. green on white, perf. 13½, a used single example on "Service Des Postes" Avis de Reception entire printed form addressed locally tied by neat "Port au Prince / Haiti" cds (May 14) in black with further strike used as receipt datestamp (June 30) at lower left. Carried to Paris on the steamer "Alps" (Hamburg America Line) and internally annotated thus. Receipt inside signed in Paris (June 4) and then returned to Haiti. Ironed bend and sides of the wrapper reinforced. The sole New Die 5 c. recorded on an Avis de Reception form. A magnificent and very attractive usage. Provenance: Collection F. 6474 cover imageHaiti, 1889: Stampless envelope to St. Thomas showing on obverse good strike of provisional negative “HAITI / POSTES / CAP HAITIEN” paid handstamp. Light filing crease at left otherwise good condition. Note: This negative provisional marking was used between March and October 1889 only during the short lived Republique Septentrionale to indicate postage paid. 588 cover imageHejaz 1916: Cover, sensibly opened for display, mailed from Mecca to Tunis, with octagonal "MEKKÉ / 3" datestamp of despatch (Aug 12) and superb strike of straight line "FEE PAID" in black (Uexkull type B), with framed "PASSED / CENSOR" in black at right and reverse with "OPENED BY CENSOR" blue reseal tap. A range of Tunis datestamps struck between September 24 and 30, the cover then returned with bilingual "RETURN TO SENDER" cachets applied in red (Nov 18 and Nov 23) and circular "VISE" handstamp in violet. Imperfections commensurate with handling and journey; a remarkable and extremely rare cover. Signed Todd AIEP. (Image 1)

Framed "R" cachet on obverse. Port Taufiq transit cds above (Feb 3) and Marseille arrival cds adjacent.
