5050 * image1862: 1 s. deep green, "Abnormal" plate 2 (= 3), lettered EA, wmk. Emblems, unofficially line perforated 14, unused, with small part original gum, a fine example of this difficult stamp, the history and origins of which continue to be a subject of much debate among specialists, one of seven such examples recorded by Galland/Louis. Cert. RPSL (2015) as a genuine S.G. Spec J102 Gi = £35'000. Note: The 1s. deep green offered here displays similar line perforations to that of the 1862 3 d. rose, which is believed to have been perforated in the 1890's by an official at Somerset House. Accordingly, the status of this stamp is the matter of some conjecture, though the recording of only seven examples by Galland and Louis attest to its scarcity. One example, lettered AA, is in the Royal Collection. (Image 1) (Image 2) (Image 3) (Image 4)
