4128 cover image1841: 1 d. red-brown on blued, lettered RB, close to large margins, used on 1844 cover from Mullingar, Westmeath to the Editor of the Naval & Military Gazette in London tied by bold strike of the "MULLINGAR MALTESE CROSS" in black with the famous four cuts in the loops of the Cross and the one single cut in the inner cross. Fine "MULLINGAR" double arc circular datestamp (March 29) in blue at left and reverse with Dublin (March 30) transit and London (March 31) arrrival in red. Fully account of this cover from "The Great Britain Philatelist" dated May 1961 accompanies the lot. Listed in "The Maltese Cross" by Rockoff and Jackson on page 207.
