2630 cover imageAustrian Post Office in Smirna 1890: 1 pi. ultramarine, a horizontal pair used on 11 Janauary 1896 registered cover from Smirna to Boston, USA (Jan 26) where at least three attempts were made at delivery: the first with pencil "unknown", the second with "Try 125th North Street", handstamped "Third Notice / Feb 4 1896" in violet and circular "REC'D IN BAD CONDITION", thence transferred to the Dead Letter Office (March 2) for return via Vienna where re-opened and sealed at edges with "Recommandirt Briefe / Wien" reseals and returned to Smirna (March 28). 15 handstamps noted on a remarkable usage(Image 1)

2632 cover imageAustrian Post Office in Smirna 1908: 10 pa. on 5 h. green on buff postal stationery wrapper used from Smirna to Crefeld, cancelled by rectangular framed "Rosinenstempel" (Raisin handstamp) of "Z / SMYRNA II / ÖST POST" in violet (May 7). An extremely scarce marking - the "Z" stands for "Zoll" (Customs) and the cancellation (Tchilinghirian / Tranmer R.3) is usually only found on receipt forms, usually on exports of dried fruit, nuts and raisins. Sold on album page with two further single stamps cancelled by the "Rosinenstempel" rubber handstamp(Image 1)
