886 cover image1815 (Jan): 2 d. drab, fifth printing with 'vertical drapes to the veil', a used example (position 1) from the top left hand corner of the sheet, huge margins at left and at top, shaved at base, on 1851 cover from Geelong to the Honourable Superintendant in Melbourne, well cancelled by "15" Butterfly handstamp in black. Reverse with oval "GEELONG / ? / PORT PHILLIP" datestamp (Jan 30) and oval arrival "MELBOURNE / ? / PORT PHILLIP" of the same day in black. Cover sensibly refolded for Exhibit display, fresh and very fine. Note: The Honourable Superintendent was Charles La Trobe, first administrator of Victoria from 1839-1852. In the John Barwis census of Half-Length covers (2009), he records 12 covers bearing this stamp, not including the example offered here.
