1899: Essay for the Large Camel type postal card. This primitive artist's essay in ink, produced on Star and Crescent Moon watermarked paper, is undated, although endorsed "3" and initialled. A stamp box in the height of the
Large Camel type stamp has been indicated and the text elements are found on the issued card. The first Large Camel type postal cards were invoiced by De La Rue in 1899, so this drawing would precede that date. Some soiling and pin holes, which do
not detract from the charm of the essay. A unique exhibition piece(Image 1)

Large Camel 1908: 4 m. brown, post card, unused. Fresh and clean condition. A very fine example of this allusive card (H&G 13). Note: Although 51260 postal cards were received from De La Rue in 1899, they were not put on
sale. Ten years later there was not a use for them for external mail as the colour of the stamp impression was wrong. Most were returned to De La Rue for being overprinted with the local postcard rate of 2 Milliemes. This meant that only 609 examples
remained without the overprint(Image 1)

Large Camel 1909: 2 m surcharge in black on 4 m. brown postal card, used uprated with 1902 2 m. green & brown, sent from Atbara to Paris, France, addressed to 'Theodore Champion', dated 10 February 1910, cancelled by the

Large Camel 1917: 3 m. reddish purple postal card, uprated with 1921 2 m. green & brown and 5 m. scarlet & black (faults), used from Western Darfur to North Wales, England, redirected to Devon, dated 17 October 1921
(location & date on reverse note), cancelled by a retta diamond dumb mark in black, with a "EL FASHER" circular transit mark in black dated 28 October 1921, as well as a "MAERDY" Welsh cds dated 1 December 1921.Creasing in lower portion and a
mild bend between the two adhesives, otherwise fine. An uncommon card sent at the 10 m. foreign rate for postcards. Scarce card and rare used. Note: It has been speculated that this card comes from not overprinted remainders of the overprinted 3 m.
cards issued in 1907. However, the colour and shade are very different from this issue and from the De La Rue printing records we know that printings of 3 m. cards were invoiced in November 1916, December 1917, November 1918 (2) and finally December
1919, but the colour is not mentioned. It is most likely that this was issued in 1917(Image 1)
