Rectangular "OFFICIAL / PAID" and oval "POST OFFICE / ? / ST. HELENA" in black at left. London transit (April 3) and re-registered in Chicago with violet "REGISTERED" handstamp, Denver arrival (April 17) on reverse. Vertical cover fold at right between 5 c. and 10 c., fault to base of envelope and flap missing. Cert. BPA (2012). Crown CC, perf. 12½, FOUR PENCE with Thin Bar surcharge (A), a used vertical pair on 1864 cover to Vouvray sur Loire, France cancelled both in manuscript which has been partly reduced and with "H" handstamps in black. Manuscript "7" in red crayon credit to GB and oval framed "ST. HELENA" despatch datestamp in blue (earliest recorded usage in blue) adjacent (Oct 20), "London / Paid" transit cds in red (Nov 25) and Calais entry marking in black all on obverse. Top flap missing and part of obverse replaced at top well away from the adhesive, but of fine appearance and an important cover: the earliest recorded usage of this stamp on letter. Cert. BPA (1988). (Gi 29) and 1884 ½ d. yellow-green unused example with variety "N" and "Y" of 'HALFPENNY' spaced (Row 18, stamp 12, position 216) with large part og. and fresh (Gi 35a). There are a number of complete sets particularly from George V onwards, and a few Specimen stamps. The collection has a specialised section with an eye catching array of examples showing varieties on the Badge of St. Helena 1922/37 issue including "Cleft Rock", "Torn Flag" and "Broken Mast" on various values often as an unused example within a block or multiple. A selection of complete sets including Specimens are prevalent during the George V & VI period. Noted items, amongst several others, Nevis 1867/76 Recess 1 s. yellow-green unused fine fresh large og. (Gi 14), Nevis Lithographed 1871/78 1 d. pale rose-red unused sheet of twelve (3 x 4) showing variety has a fault in side margin otherwise very fine (Gi 16), also a beautiful St. Christopher 1885 overprinted 1 d. rose unused sheet of twenty with plate number "1" surround showing "Bulging bottom right corner" position 12 (Gi R3), St. Kitts-Nevis 1923 Tercentenary of the Colony set of thirteen values overprinted 'SPECIMEN' in red, large part og. (Gi 48s-60s) and 1921/29 set of sixteen values overprinted or perforated 'SPECIMEN'.
