1916 (Feb) '10 / cents.' red surcharge (Type 67) on 12 c. black & deep blue, unused side marginal block of fifty (stamp 51-100), the right margin folded over so that the "s" of "cents" was applied on the reverse of the
selvedge, and subsequently the missing "s" on the right vertical column has been inserted by hand, with large part og. The block is severed in half and one stamp in the bottom row with part base torn away and there are other faults. However, a superb
exhibition block. Rare Gi = £ 8,500+. Note: The surcharge was applied in a setting of 25 (5 x 5), four times to each sheet, the inverted 's' error in 'cents', occuring on positions; 15, 20, 65 & 70. The error on this block appeared in the
normal position of 65, but on position 70, it was applied erroneously to the gummed reverse of the selvedge. The printer then applied the 's' by hand to position 70, the 's' being applied correctly. Provenance: Ex Patrick Cassels Collection, October
