DE LA MÉDITée / Marseille" cds and handstruck '30' décimes taxation, reverse with TOULON-SUR-MER arrival (June 18) cds in black. The vessel 'Imperial' was built in 1856 and equipped with 90 canons. Marine Fieldpost was directly transfered to Marseille without passing a Fieldpost office. A fine and fresh cover showing the military concession rate, a rare item, signed Brun. Note: The 1860 civil conflict in Mount Lebanon and Damascus, also known as the 1860 Syrian Civil War or the 1860 Christian–Druze war, was a civil conflict in Mount Lebanon during Ottoman rule in 1860–1861 fought mainly between the local Druze and Christians. Following decisive Druze victories and massacres against the Christians, the conflict spilled over into other parts of Ottoman Syria, particularly Damascus, where thousands of Christian residents were killed by Muslim and Druze militiamen. 7057 cover imageFrench Post Office in Jaffa 1854 (Oct 19): Entire letter from Jaffa to Marseille, dated inside, endorsed "Par le Scamandre", struck by superb cursive handstamp of “Jaffa” in black (Pothion = 32 points / Livnat no 1), reverse with “ALEXANDRIE EGYPTE” transit and MARSEILLE arrival cds’s (Oct 30) in black. Part of back and tiny piece at the top of the front are missing due to the effects of humidity, nevertheless a perfect strike of the elusive handstamp in use between 1852-1854. 7060 cover imageFrench Post Office in Beirut & the postal connections to Jerusalem 1846 (April 26): Unpaid Entire letter from the Sardinian consulate of Palestina in Jerusalem and directed to the Sardinian consulate in Alexandria, Egypt, the seal seal closed with the consular cachet in green blue. Front struck in transit by crisp "BEYROUTH SYRIE 6 MAI 46” cds, reverse with "ALEXANDRIE EGYPTE" arrival (May 9) large Pothion type A cds of the French P.O., both in black. The entire taxed with '6' décimes, slitted for disinfection, a superb item of exceptional freshness, an early usage from the office opened the year before. Note: In August 1845 a bureau de distribution was opened in Beirut. From November of that year, mail from Jerusalem was brought to Beirut, from where it was sent to the west. This connection run from Jerusalem via Ramleh, Jaffa, Caiffa, Acre, Sour, and Saida to Beirut, this private postal service was organized by Mrs. Santelli & Micciarelli from Beirut. In 1852, the newly opened French P.O. in Jaffa became the gateway from Jerusalem to Western Europe and the Levant(Image 1) (Image 2)

Mai 1855” datestamp with capital letters with day inserted by hand in blue green (Steichele fig 324 / Livnat no 5), and cursive handstamp “Jaffa” in black (Pothion = 32 points / Livnat no 1) in black, framed “PAQUEBOTS DE LA MEDITERRANÉE” handstamp in red alongside, reverse with “ALEXANDRIE EGYPTE” and MARSEILLE transit as well as LYON arrival (Jan 13, 54) cds’s, all in black. During its journey the cover was slitted for disinfection, taxed upon arrival with handstruck ‘10’ décimes. Horizontal file fold well away from the postmarks, nevertheless very fine and rare.
