29 cover image1860 (Feb 8): (3 c.) black on blue with pen stroke through UN REAL MC at base, eight examples used on the extraordinary registered cover from Goya to Restauracion, each cancelled by "#" manuscript markings in black ink with "CERTIFICADO" handstamp applied centrally on address panel next to "Goya" manuscript despatch cancellation. The cover showing one stamp with close margins and the other seven with ample to large margins all round, the address panel with some acid ink faults and rebacked to protect the cover, without doubt the most spectacular of all second issue Corrientes covers. 36 piece image1856/1879: Group of used examples with scarce and unusual postmarks, comprising twelve singles, noted; 1856 'UN REAL MC', type 6, attached to small piece cancelled by rare "16 Bars" handstamp in black, being a very late usage, also two 1877 3 c. bright purple (Kneitschel 13), one type 3 with a crisp blue "UCUYA / CT. 77" datestamp cancel of 'MBURUCUYA', attractively positioned leaving a clear profile, the other example being a dry printing cancelled by a 'Caa-Cati' datestamp in black (creased), two 1876/79 3 c. bright rose-lilac (Kneitschel 14), type 6 and 5, with fine part strikes of a black 'GOYA / CORRIENTES' datestamp, and five cancelled by small oval bars cancel, one 2 c. bottle green cancelled by "CORREOS DE CORRIENTES" circular datestamp, as well as a 3 c. rose-red with part "CORRIENTES" c.d.s., additionally an unused Scott 4a with gum, condition is good to fine, all with four large margins, although some small thins which are not unusual on these printings, very attractive and a scarce selection. 419 cover image1848: Sarapiqui River illustrated lettersheet, unstamped, sent from Kingston, Jamaica to Norwich, England, dated 9 April 1848, with wonderful printed image of military boats on the river endorsed "Engagement at Serapipui River, San Juan 11 February 1848' with printed details of what the picture depicts; manuscript '2' to front, to the back a dispatch datestamp, a London transit 5 May and an arrival 6 May 1848, soiled to front and two small holes one to picture one to border, otherwise fine, rare example. Note: The Sarapiqui River is a Costa Rica tributary of the San Juan River, at the time HMS Alarm, HMS Vixen and 1st Company 38th Regiment were involved in military action at this location and date. 421 * image1863: Coat of Arms, ½ r. blue, in a paler shade, plate 1, block of fifteen (5 x 3), unused, original gum, clean fresh colour, showing the prominent "Crack in Plate" running vertically down the three stamps on the left, very dramatic, the perforations are also partial, the punch being blunt at this stage in the life of the machine, a very fine example of this eye catching variety, rare. Ex the Brian Moorhouse Estate. Remark: It is recorded that at some point prior to July 1875 the 1 real plate 1 developed a serious crack. The crack affected three positions on the plate - positions 1, 11 and 21. Printings from this plate in its late state were a paler colour(Image 1) (Image 2)
