5821 cover imageVryburg 1900: British re-occupation, "St. Quintin" provisional, Hope seated ½ d. green on envelope tied by circular "VRYBURG / CGH" with manuscript "CSQ" (initials of Intelligence Officer, Clifford St. Quentin). The Officer located the datestamp after the Boers had left Vryburg, but not the central dater, thus he meticulously signed each stamp sold in the date position: see the Harry Birkhead sale for further examples. 1027 **/*/(*) image1900/07: Collection of material predominately unused, with large part og. some unmounted, including a complete run of sets (Gi 1/16 & 1s/16s) as well as matching specimens of the same (x2 sets Gi 3s/7s), noted additional examples with varieties including a used example of the 1902 6 d. brown "Dented frame" of fresh colour although has a vertical crease, lightly cancelled (Gi 6a = £ 750), also an unused example of the 1902 ½ d. green with "Slotted frame". 1902/03 2½ d. Die Proof of the duty plate printed in black on white glazed card (90 x 60mm.), dated '7 OCT. 01', and an unused 1907 Georgetown Provisional ½ d. black handstamp on 5 s. salmon & green with large part og. slightly disturbed (Cert. 4733 cover image1907 (Nov): Provisional "1D" on 5 s. salmon & green, handstamped at Georgetown, a used example, correctly franking a 1907 postcard (Sheddon Road, Georgetown) to Grand Turk, Turks Islands, tied by "George Town / Grand Cayman" cds (Nov 29) in black. 'Kingston / Jamaica' transit adjacent (Dec 7) and 'Turks Islands' arrival cds 10 Jan, 1908). The card is written by George Hirst, Cayman Islands Commissioner with a Christmas message for H.H. Hutchings who was to succeed Mr. Hirst in 1912 as Acting Commissioner. Superb and extremely rare with just two postcard usages recorded bearing this adhesive. Roughly opened at top which is strange as Bright was a stamp dealer, and slight edge wear to envelope; reverse with 'Kingston / Jamaica' transit cds (Dec 17) and London arrival (1 Jan, 1908).
