Prussian blue used from Sydney toi the Hague, this last with Late Fee prepaid in stamps and circular LATE FEE PAID / GPO alongside. A scarce pair (H&G A8+A10).

30103 image1842 (Aug 6): Printed OHMS cover from the Principle Superintendent of Convict's Office in Sydney to the Police Magistrate in Newcastle, with faint "♚ / FREE" in red at right. Docketed and countersigned "In the absence of the Principal Supt. Conv's, Thomas Ryan". Appointed as commandant at Norfolk Island from September 1839 until March 1840, Ryan (1790-1846) later left for India with the 50th Regiment where he fought at Maharajpore in 1843 and died from wounds inflicted at the Battle of Sobraon in 1846.rnrnProvenance: Collection Brian Peace, Prestige, Melbourne, 27 July 2009, lot 1109. 30105 image1849 (March 19): Entire letter from Glen Duart, Broulee to Port Phillip, wiht an attempt at fraud as endorsed 'OHMS' twice, struck on despatch with octagonal framed "FREE / BROULEE" in red - with "FREE" deleted in manuscript and charged '1/3d.' to collect. Reverse with fine "BROULEE / ♚ / MA 19 / 1849 / NEW S. WALES" in red, circular "GENERAL POST OFFICE / ♚ / SYDNEY" in black (March 24) and oval "MELBOURNE / ♚ / PORT PHILLIP" arrival in black (April 2).
