Recess by De La Rue from Perkins Bacon plates 1864c. Die Proof for the Swan 4 d. value
printed in carmine on card paper (80 x 41 mm.) with Crown CC watermark sideways with Crown to right, embossed into the card. The Proof also shows a 'ghost' impression of the Ceylon Chalon head, sideways to the Swan impression. Whilst there are four
known Proofs of this type, all in the same colour, this is unique with the weak Chalon impression. A rare and most impressive Proof. (Image 1) (Image 2)
