Recess on White Paper 1867/76: Recess 1 s. yellow-green on vertically laid paper, perf. 15,
a used example centred to right, position 9 on sheet showing "Crossed Lines on Hill", lightly cancelled in black by "A09" obliterator leaving the variety relatively clear. Just 36 stamps (three sheets) are believed to have been printed on the laid
paper and are only known used. 17 examples are recorded to date, thus just 3 examples of this variety can exist. The adjoining stamp to this example is housed in the collection of Her Majesty Queen Elizabeth II. An exceptional rarity of British
Colonial philately. Cert. BPA (1997) Gi = £ 16'000.rnProvenance: Collection Watson Yuile, Harmers, London, 3 April 1967, lot 122; Collection Sydney Lewis. (Image 1) (Image 2) (Image 3)
