6687 image1859 (March 20): Cover from Susteren via Maastricht to Tourcoing, endorsed "Echantillon sans valeur", bearing horizontal pair 1852 Willem 15 c. orange, a superb multiple with large even margins, tied by clear FRANCO - halfrond datestamp of Maastricht. The cover was given to the postal service at the small agency of SUSTEREN nearby Maastricht, a corresponding single-line handstamp was struck to the reverse. It was franked in Maastricht, a "P.D." handstamp was struck to the obverse as well as a French "PAYS BAS 21 MARS 59 LILLE" entry cds, both in red. Reverse shows a partial TOURCOING arrival (March 22) cds. A most appealing cover, the franking paying correctly the 30 cents rate to France with the mention "Sample without value" without any impact on the postal rate. Signed Calves; cert. KNBF (1997).
