BAON MARSZOWY 30 PU.KU PIECHOTY, picture side shows LWOW (Lemberg) – Ulica Leona Sapiehy (Sapieha Street), rare example of early Polish fieldpost during the POLISH–UKRAINIAN WAR of 1918–1919, conflict over territorial claims in Eastern Galicia, particularly the city of Lwów, following the collapse of the Austro-Hungarian Empire, the sender's unit, 2. BAON MARSZOWY 30 PU.KU PIECHOTY (2nd March Battalion of the 30th Infantry Regiment), was part of the reconstituted Polish Army operating in Eastern Galicia, the regiment itself tracing roots to the Austro-Hungarian k.u.k. Infantry Regiment No. 30, historically stationed in Lemberg and largely composed of ethnic Poles, during this period under the command of officers such as Col. Boleslaw Roja and later involved in engagements in both Eastern Galicia and Volhynia, POCZTA POLOWA 12, a mobile military post office, served the frontline units during active operations, offering rare survivals of correspondence under campaign conditions, the black circular postmark being clearly struck, complementing the violet censor mark CENZUROWANO and unit cachet, well-preserved and complete, with sharp strikes, exceptional documentation of Polish fieldpost during nation-building conflicts, ex Kugel, XF!
