740 image1854-93 postmark collection neatly presented and written up in two albums with approx 375 QV stamps with the emphasis on the clarity of the postmarks, some on piece, and 28 covers. The collection is arranged as per the various postmarks with ranges of the lozenge types, diamond numerals, Bombay and Calcutta with sub types, Octagonals (incl. in blue), Madras, Bombay locals, Experimental Temporary P.O's etc. From the 1854 issue there are ½a (18, of which 2 on piece and 2 on cover incl. pair), 1a (10, plus on cover) and 4a (plus 3 cut to shape and 2 singles on part letter to UK), with an extensive range of the later QV issues. The covers incl. 1856 Bhangulpore to Calcutta bearing 1a red, 1861 Madras to France with 4a and 8pi (2) and fine 'India Paid' crescent h/stamp, 1867 Abbotobad to Neath (redirected to Chester) with 4a (2), 1873 Bombay to Stornoway (scarce destination) with 1a (2) & 4a and 1870 Bombay to Genoa with 2a, 4a & 8pi. Also noted - three covers ex the James Ruffle collection, 1865 Calcutta to Glasgow with 8pi, 2a & 4a tied blue octagonal cancels (very attractive), 1860 Simla to London with 4a black and 1868 Poona to London with 8a (2) & 8pi (2). A fine and most attractive collection. (Image)
