 1941 RETURNED MAIL registered envelope from Winsen (Aller) to Consulate at Tientsin, China with a most unusual routing Via Lima, Peru (12th Nov arrival/13th Nov departure) on to New York (Dec 1st) with marginal US censor tape
with additional m/s number, San Francisco transit (Dec 5) on to Honolulu, Hawaii (Dec 14th) just after declaration of War with Germany. Item held by Information Control Branch until July 11.42 with RELEASE/BY I.C.B/13' h/stamp, returned to New York
where 'RETURNED TO SENDER/SERVICE SUSPENDED' h/stamp applied. Very unusual item. (Image)
