316 og image#233var 3¢ Mufti with unusual "collar blob" variety, perhaps related to the cracked ear variety (plate 3, UR)?. A note accompanies explaining the stamp was purchased at the St. George St post office in Moncton, NB on Oct 25, 1942. A second note in shaky handwriting (later in life) explains a situation where the stamp was almost used. The name mentioned is Spindloe, the likely discoverer of the variety. Unlisted in Unitrade. 320 O image#387a 5¢ Seaway inverted centre, used with wavy line machine cancel, reverse with some original gum remaining and wrinkles from having been mailed. Greene Foundation certificate accompanies that states, "387a, used, genuine, with inverted centre, creases, some OG still remaining on reverse". The certificate seems harsh but the stamp is quite nice in person and could honestly be soaked to remove the gum and with it much of the apparent wrinkling. But serious collectors recognize that this stamp was highly sought after, making front page news as the whole country scoured their mail for this modern treasure. I can imagine the person who found it, treating it gently and just popping it off, leaving it in "as found" condition. Used examples are rarer than mint ones. All images shown available as PDF.
