1544 cover imageGreat Britain to Hong Kong - Official Parliamentary Mail by Austen Layard, M.P. 21 July 1865, an official letter endorsed by Austen H. Layard, Esq., M.P., bearing a red circular "OFFICIAL PAID / LONDON / JY 21/65" handstamp, and addressed to Hongkong. The reverse side cancelled by Hong-Kong c.d.s. dated 19 September 1865. The letter bears no adhesive postage, as it was carried under official franking privilege only granted to members of Parliament and government officials. A red manuscript "1d" charge is noted at upper right, likely a postage mark credited to Hong Kong as an internal accounting. Black manuscript made to the upper left-hand side: Austen Layard Esq. (1817-1894), who is a celebrated British politician, diplomat, and archaeologist, was serving as Member of Parliament and Under-Secretary of State for Foreign Affairs at the time. He later served as Ambassador to Spain and the Ottoman Empire. This letter reflects the use of UK official diplomatic or parliamentary channels for overseas communication during the mid-19th century British Empire, and its destination-Hong Kong-underscores Britain's strategic colonial presence in East Asia. Rarely seen.

T&S stated that this cds was mainly used as transit or arrival marking.

837 image1905 a pair of Russian military postcards posted at Chinese Eastern Railway TPO No. 262, applied with unit seal in blue, line 262 T&S type 2 oval d.s. and arrival cds. T&S stated that cancellations of line 262 are great rarity during the early 1900s and remains scarce until 1920s. With Kenneth G Clark's exhibit page.

Transit Shanghai BPO (11 Dec), London (16 Jan). Arrived Portefract (16 Jan). Mild toning spots. Commercial usage of ovpt. registered stationery cover is especially scarce.

1906.12.5 天津軍醫院寄英國。香港維多利亞女皇像10仙掛號郵資封（size H2 4 x 9 inch；改值25仙至2.5元），加貼愛德華七世8仙，銷天津英局Webb A型日戳，旁鈐Ri型掛號章。12.11經上海英局，1.16經倫敦。1.16抵Portefract。帶黃點。實寄之改值掛號郵資封尤其少見難得。(Image 1) (Image 2)

921 cover image1879 Ningpo (10 Apr) to England. Hong Kong formular card f.w. QV surch 3c/16c (Yang P1; yellow card, black printing), with stamp franked upside down variety, applied with Ningpo BPO Webb type B index C cds alongside. Adhesive probably also applied with N1 obliterator but too faint to recognize. Transit Shanghai BPO (11 Apr) with S1 obliterator on adhesive. Further transit Hong Kong (13 Apr). Very peculiar and interesting example of adhesive upside down on formular card, not to mention originating from Ningpo. 1990 (Nov) Christie's Robson Lowe "Hong Kong and Treaty Ports The Christopher D'Almada Collection" lot 1084. With RPSL certificate.

1879.4.10 寧波寄英國。香港明信片貼維多利亞女皇像票改值3仙蓋16仙（楊目P1，黃卡黑字），郵票倒貼，旁鈐寧波英局Webb B型C字日戳。貼票應有銷N1殺手戳但不清。4.11經上海英局，貼票蓋S1殺手戳。4.13經香港。非常獨特少見之郵票倒貼例子，出自寧波更是難得。1990.11 佳士得D'Almada專場，拍品號1084。附皇家郵學會證書。(Image 1) (Image 2)
