2559 cover image1897 Jenchuan (14 Dec) to Shanghai. E Meyer cover, f.w. Small Dragon 5ca on reverse, tied by scarce Customs Jenchuan type D2 cds Transit Chefoo with Dollar chop (16/17 Dec). Arrived Shanghai Local Post (19 Dec). Only 3 covers used in Korea are known with single franking of 5ca. Meyer & Co. was established 1866 in Hong Kong by Hamburg merchants Hermann Constantin Eduaro Meyer (1841-1926) and his brother H. D. Johannes Meyer. In 1873 they opened a branch in Tientsin under Meyers business partner, Carl Andreas Wolter (1858-1916). More branchers followed at Hamburg (1877), London (1883), Shanghai, Hankow, Antung, Tsinan and Tsingtao, also in Korea where Wolter became manager in charge: Chemulpo (1884), Pusan (1886) etc. The Chinese name of the company was “Shi Chang Yang Hong”. E. Meyer was honorary Korean Consul in Hamburg, Germany 1886-1906. The Meyer company exists in Hamburg until today.

1897.12.14 仁川寄上海。世昌洋行封，背貼小龍5分銀，銷稀罕少見之仁川海關D2型日戳。12.16/17經煙台，鈐大圓戳。12.19經上海工部信局。朝鮮封單貼小龍5分銀票者僅見三件。 世昌洋行創立於1866年，由漢堡商人Eduaro Meyer及其兄弟H. D. Johannes Meyer於香港成立。E. Meyer在1886至1906年間曾任韓國駐德國漢堡榮譽領事。世昌洋行至今仍在漢堡營業。(Image 1) (Image 2)

3083 cover image6 June 1892 – Germany 10pf UPU Postal Card from Peking to Köln A Germany 10 Pfennig UPU postal card, dispatched from Peking to Köln, Germany. The indicium is cancelled by “KAISERLICH DEUTSCHE POSTAGENTUR SHANGHAI 11/6 92” c.d.s. in black. On the obverse is also a fine strike of the blue double-ring “CUSTOMS TIENTSIN / JUN 7 / 92”. On the reverse appear two further strikes: “I.G. OF CUSTOMS PEKING / JUN 6 / 92” in blue and “CUSTOMS SHANGHAI / JUN 11 / 92” in black. At the lower left corner, there are traces of a missing adhesive and a partial Customs cancellation. Based on the 1892 date of use, the missing stamp is almost certainly a 3 candareens Small Dragon, applied to pay the internal Customs postage within China. A good example of a Germany UPU postal card carried entirely within the Imperial Chinese Customs Postal System before transmission abroad. The combination of Peking, Tientsin, and Shanghai Customs markings alongside the German Post Office at Shanghai illustrates the transitional handling of foreign-origin stationery within the Chinese Customs framework.

1892年6月6日 – 德國10芬尼UPU明信片 由北京寄科隆 德國10芬尼UPU明信片，由北京寄往德國科隆。票面印花銷「KAISERLICH DEUTSCHE POSTAGENTUR SHANGHAI 11/6/92」黑色日戳，正面並蓋藍色雙圈「CUSTOMS TIENTSIN / JUN 7 / 92」。背面另見兩枚戳記：「I.G. OF CUSTOMS PEKING / JUN 6 / 92」藍色及「CUSTOMS SHANGHAI / JUN 11 / 92」黑色。 信片左下角留有殘跡及部分海關戳痕，顯示曾貼附郵票。根據1892年使用年份，應為小龍郵票3分銀，用以支付中國境內海關郵資。 此為一件頗具特色且稀見之德國UPU明信片，全程經由中國帝國海關郵政系統寄遞之郵史實物。北京、天津及上海三地海關戳記與德國駐滬郵局戳並存，展現了外國郵政文具在清代海關郵政過渡時期的特殊處理方式。(Image 1) (Image 2)
