 1894 Macau Luis I surch “PROVISORIO” 2a on 10r, tied by 1897 (May) cds. F-VF. According to the article “Macau -2 avos sobre 10 Reis” published in 1944, someone showed up in the state printer with sheets of Macau Luis I 10r
stamps and requested surcharge of 2a on them, claiming it would be used in Timor. After that, this type of 2a/10r stamp appeared on the Yvert catalogue which claimed that this stamp was circulating in Timor. However, this stamp never actually
circulated and was a clandestine production. As the governor of Macau Horta e Costa was a philatelist, he ordered to detain mails f.w. this stamp and prohibited to cancel it on cover. However, CTO stamps exist after several years as most people
forgot this order.

series issues were not ovpt. with local currency when arrived at Macao.

 1910 Macau (15 Jul) to Hong Kong, f.w. Macau Carlos I bisected 6a x19 + Carlos I 3a diagonally bisected stamp x8 on front and reverse (Yang 117a, 130a), tied by Direccao do Correio de Macau cds., matching with registered label.
Dated earlier than the earliest cover (18 Jul 1910) f.w. 6a bisected stamp recorded by L Frazao in “Historia e Desenvolvimento dos Correios e das Telecommunicacoes de Macau Vol II”.
