First Month of 1851 Issue Use, July 12

The stamp position is 15L1E, on folded letter addressed to Isaac Strohm, Esq., Treasury Department, Washington, D.C with manuscript “Care of Carrier / Paid” at bottom left and blue Baltimore, Md. Jul. 12, (1851) postmark. The enclosed letter contains interesting content describing a visit to King George County, Northampton County, Norfolk, and Portsmouth, "the county is so level that in a field of 500 acres there will not be a deviation of one foot from a dead level. The people go almost entirely in vehicles instead of riding upon horseback. They sometimes go 60 to 80 miles a day.”
