Original and Reprint Reference Lot

According to Patton, "the authenticity of this stamp has never been satisfactorily proved. Disregarding the five or six obvious forgeries there are two types of the Clay stamp which, judging by the quality of their printing and production, may possibly have been genuine emissions of the Blood's Post under Kochersperger's management"References: A Study of the Forgeries, Reprints and Bogus Stamps By DONALD S. 7067 19L1, 11 imageBoyce's City Express, 19L1, 2c Black on Green, Uncanceled on Cover with #11 3c Dull Red, Tied by New York Circular Datestamp to New Jersey.
Extremely Rare To-The-Mails Usage of this Elusive New York Local

Uncancelled single used with 3c stamp tied by "New-York May 27" circular datestamp on cover from New York to Morristown, N.J. An extremely rare to-the-mails combination usage of Boyce’s City Express Post, among the more elusive New York locals, with approximately 8–10 covers and only 4–5 off-cover examples recorded. Very little contemporary documentation survives regarding the operation of Boyce’s City Express Post. No definitive listing for a proprietor appears in city directories, and no advertisements or supporting records have been identified. Recorded usages fall within a narrow period, with known examples dated from late 1852 through April 1855.(Image 1) (Image 2)
