One of Only Twelve Recorded Examples of the 10c Black Used with the Hudson River Mail Route Agent's Marking, and Possibly Latest Known Usage to Canada Single with large to huge margins except close at upper left corner, fine color and impression, tied by file crease on 1849 folded letter from New York to Quebec, Lower Canada with red grid cancel. Addressed to Messrs. Gibb & Ross, Quebec. Red "HUDSON RIV. MAIL N.Y. DEC 18" route agent circular datestamp at left. Red "MONTRÉAL/D/1849/L.C." transit at left. Quebec LC backstamp. Manuscript "11½" Canada due rating at top center. The route agent marking "HUDSON RIV. MAIL N.Y." was used on Contract Route No. 809 (New York to Albany via the Hudson River, 150 miles) from March 1847 into November 1850.

1851-1857 3c Orange-Brown tied by blue Oct 9 Acton, Mass circular datestamp. The enclosed letter is dated 1856. Letter mentions the Fremont Club. This "Campaign" cover is one of the earliest types of advertising covers. It was used to rouse up interest for General Fremont in the 1856 Presidential campaign. He stood as a Republican against Fillmore (American party) a previous President and Buchanan (Democrat) who was elected. Like Bischel 244, Walcott 533. Very Scarce, Attractive Large Multiple

Oswego New York, "MAY 14" datestamp to Detroit, Michigan on folded letter outer sheet. The strip of five used to pay the quintuple rate. A vertical crease between the right pair, the strip of stamps roughly separated at bottom. Chase notes that a horizontal strip of 5 is 100 times more rare than a single used stamp off cover, and even more rare when used on cover.
