Cape of Good Hope. 1842 (May 12) "The Cape Frontier Times" newspaper No. 106 published in Grahams Town, bearing a 1d rose imperforate newspaper tax stamp which also paid the postage to England, addressed across the stamp to "His Grace the Archbishop
of Canterbury", partial Cape Town and London datestamps. The newspaper contains news of the death of the Kaffir Chief Tyali and the settlers relationships with the Kaffirs, forthcoming Albany races, etc. A rare early adhesive stamp paying postage,
sent eleven years before the Cape issued postage stamps; the Burrus collection contained a slightly earlier example, described as the worlds first official postage stamp as it predated the V.R 1d black (sold for £420 in 1962).

posted to the Archbishop of Canterbury (address wrapper missing). The newspaper contains news of Kaffir incursions and thefts of cattle and oxen, and the Boer farmers resistance to British occupation of Natal. A rare early adhesive stamp paying
postage, sent eleven years before the Cape issued postage stamps; the Burrus collection contained a slightly earlier example, described as the worlds first official postage stamp as it predated the V.R 1d black (sold for £420 in 1962).
