953 Perim Island/Boer War. 1900 (Jan 1) India 1a postcard from Perim to Pretoria, cancelled at Aden Camp (Jan. 7), handstamped violet boxed "STOPPED BY CENSOR / RETURN TO SENDER" and Returned Letter Office Natal c.d.s (Feb. 20), Bombay D.L.O Unclaimed label tied by boxed D.L.O datestamp (Mar 20/27), registered back to Perim with seven Aden or Aden Camp datestamps (Apr. 5-11). Minor edge tears, small hole caused by the date slug in a heavily applied c.d.s and small piece missing at upper right corner, nevertheless a remarkable use, almost certainly unique from Perim.

955 1909 (Mar 4) Cover with "BRITISH ANTARCTIC EXPEDITION 1907" printed flap, addressed to Christchurch with King Edward VII Land 1d tied by "BRIT. ANTARCTIC EXPD." c.d.s applied on the "Nimrod" which sailed past Cape Royds on this day, light horizontal fold, otherwise fine. The final mail from the Shackleton Expedition, the c.d.s mainly used on loose C.T.O stamps on this date with few covers cancelled.

956 image1913 (Jan 18) Registered cover to "Conrad Fry Esq, Director, J.S Fry & Sons Ltd, Union Street, Bristol, England" franked Victoria Land 1d strip of three and bearing a blank registration label (no. 67), with "BRIT. ANTARCTIC EXPD" datestamp on the label and stamps, applied on the "Terra Nova" on the day the ship arrived at Cape Evans and learnt of the death of Scott and his companions, backstamped at Lyttelton (Feb 12), Auckland and T.P.O Wanganui Wellington. Also a Victoria Land 1d tied by JA.18.13 c.d.s to printed certificate confirming the stamp is genuine, reproduction signatures of Comdr. Evans and Francis Drake, central horizontal fold. Fry & Sons, cocoa and chocolate manufactures, were one of the sponsors of Scott s Expedition and used pictures of the expedition in their adverts. The cover with minor soiling and vertical fold at left but very scarce, just 100 registered covers sent by the expedition, few of which still exist. (2). Photo on Page 122. (Image1)

Packet", charged 1/- with fine "ANTIGUA" handstamp and London (Nov. 5) backstamp, carried on the "Grantham" which was struck by lightning during the voyage destroying a cabin and injuring several seamen. The letter includes "Two spies from St. Lucia captured in Martinique and shot after confessing that the island was to be attacked and the inhabitants massacred ..... more fears of invasion but as six Regiments are on their way from England it is hoped the French will soon change from the offensive to the defensive". 958 1797 (May 8-12) Entire letter from Samuel Eliot to Charles Tudway in Somerset, endorsed "By His Majestys Ship Vanguard", charged 1/5 with fine "PORTSMOUTH / SHIP LETTER (S5). The letter comprises a copy of a letter sent on the Swallow Packet, with a further letter which includes "Our Packets must have fallen into the hands of the enemy as we have had no mails got to us since that by the Chesterfield, which left Falmouth in the latter end of January, and the Swallow by which this goes was captured to windward of Barbados some time ago and afterwards retaken and carried into St. Kitts".

959 1806 (June 18) Entire letter from Henry Bowyer in Barbados to Antigua, concerning a proposal to reorganise the West India Corps, which Bowyer is forwarding to Col. Gordon for the information of His Royal Highness the Commander in Chief. Posted upon arrival, addressed to "Major Luke Alen, 3rd West India Regt., Antigua" with two line "ANTIGUA / JUL 5" (no year, only recorded in 1806), no postal charge shown, probably delivered free as official mail. A very scarce local prestamp letter.

960 1807 (June 23) Entire letter from George Otley at Parham House to Clement Tudway in London and redirected to Somerset, endorsed "Post Paid to London" with the 1/10 rate deleted and a light Free datestamp, fine oval "SHIP-LETTER / (crown) / PORTSMOUTH" (S10). The letter includes "As the lady Arabella Packet which is just arrived has missed Barbados and the other islands I am afraid we will be detained here so long (by having their mails to send up and answer). I therefore take advantage of the Prince George, a 98 gun ship bound directly home under Capt. Nathaniel Cochrane".

970 South Australia. 1882 (Nov 9) Cover with printed heading "Advertise in the "NARRACOORTE HERALD" and "WITHOUT LETTER From Herald Office, NARRACOORTE", the reverse entirely covered by a printed advert "Every Resident of Narracoorte ..... should subscribe to the Narracoorte Herald  ...... Printing of every description at town rates ....", sent at the 1d printed matter rate with a diagonally bisected 2d stamp accepted as valid and tied by Narracoorte c.d.s, the printed "without letter" inscription circled with "OK" alongside, redirected from Sydney to Adelaide with backstamps of both places. Opened out, reverse with minor edge faults at left and small piece of flap missing from the corner, otherwise fine, an exceptionally unusual acceptance of a 2d bisect on an early advertising cover.
