704 1866 (June 22) Entire letter with large green cachet "K.K 18tes INFTR. REGIMENTS / ERGAENZUNGSBEZIRKS COMANDO" and a Prag c.d.s, to Koniggratz with arrival backstamp (June 23), received ten days before the Battle of Koniggratz which ended the seven week Austro-Prussian War.

711 1885 (Oct 14) Letter from Rev. A.J Wookey at Molepolole, to Col. Carrington, asking if a permanent weekly or fortnightly post could be arranged through Mafeking to the Molepolole area, mail currently comes via Transvaal, and is a purely private post between Molepolole and Zeerust. The reverse endorsed "Col. Carrington, This was brought down by the Molepolole patrol returned yesterday, Oct. 18. Alfred Bethen, Adjt BBP, Mafeking 19.10.85". A unique letter sent just two weeks after the declaration of the Bechuanaland Protectorate, carried by police patrol.

712 1886 (Jan 26) Long cover with "SECHELE MINA" and a crocodile superbly printed in blue on the flap, addressed "To His Honor the Administrator, British Bechuanaland" and endorsed "p. Tr G.W Burton, D. Troop, B.B.P". The enclosed letter signed by Sechele, Chief of the Bakwenas, includes "on the 25th May last I handed over to Sir Charles Warren in the name of the Queen a certain portion of my country on the eastward boundary for the use of English settlers, that land is now being used by other tribes as grazing ground for their cattle &c, and some Boers are cutting wood. I have not sent to, nor interfered with them in any way as I wish to hear first from you, my friend, what steps I am to take or whether you will take any in the matter. I would greatly prefer that you would send yourself as I wish to be at peace with all my neighbours". A unique letter from Chief Sechele, carried by police patrol.

713 Mail Coaches/Carts. 1890-92 Documents comprising 1890 printed tenders for the conveyance of mails between Vryburg and Mafeking by post cart, one also tendering for the Mafeking to Bulawayo route; 1891 printed timetable for the Vryburg to Macloutsie mail card (almost split in two); 1891 copy letter to Chief Lenchwe at Mochudi asking why he had prevented road repairs through Mochudi, with his telegram in reply stating roads are too narrow for the mail cart which will endanger lives; timetable for the proposed Mafeking to Pelakwie Camp post cart; 1892 timetable for the Vryburg to Palachwe and Macloutsie mail coach; also passenger tickets, receipts, etc. (14).

714 Gaberones. 1893-94 Covers comprising 1893 cover to Cape Town (letter enclosed) bearing Bechuanaland 1d (4) with type D1c.d.s; 1893 cover to Mafeking with Bechuanaland 4d cancelled "568" and type D2 c.d.s alongside; 1894 cover to England with Bechuanaland 6d, Gaberones c.d.s D2 alongside, the stamp unusually cancelled the following day by a Mafeking squared circle, all fine. 716 imageMacloutsi. 1892 Covers from the Sitwell correspondence to England, the first with 1886 6d tied type D1 c.d.s (part enclosed letter, referring to bayonet exercises and a court martial); the second with type D2 c.d.s (Dec 4) alongside manuscript "6d" with 1891 6d applied over this and cancelled in transit by "555" of Vryburg. 723 1948-49 Proof impressions of forty differing handstamps from 35 different Post Offices, the handstamps for each office on a separate piece headed "Authenticated impression of date-stamp used at ...... for cancelling of B.P Silver Wedding stamps", with signature or handstamp of the Postmaster at Mafeking alongside "verified", several also with the Mafeking Post Office cachet. A unique group, obtained in 1949 on the instructions of the Colonial Office in London as a result of reports of forged datestamps appearing on the 1949 Silver Wedding stamps.
