651 Censorship. 1941-45 Covers (6) and censorship slips (7) including G.B covers returned by the censor (3), two with enclosed slips ("memorial cards" enclosed contrary to regulations, or an attempt to communicate with enemy territory in a letter to neutral Sweden); cover from Argentina with attached label "This cover was open when it reached the censorship"; British Censorship slips (3, picture postcard enclosed, communication with enemy territory, request for goods to be sent to writer); "Postage Refunded" slips (2); also a cover returned by the U.S censor with attached slip, and 1944 (Mar. 4) stampless British O.A.S cover to Argentina detained by the U.S censor until 1945 with arrival machine (26 Aug 1945) and "THIS ARTICLE HAS BEEN HELD / BY THE OFFICE OF CENSORSHIP". 652 1942 Cover from Cheadle to Argentina franked 3/6, handstamped "POSTAGE REFUNDED" and bearing a green "Returned To Sender By The Censor" label, an unnumbered form from the Military Censor Section enclosed, "This letter, apparently written by a soldier, was posted in the Civil Post contrary to Army Regulations and was returned by the Civil Postal Censorship", very scarce.

657 1942-45 Letters from G.B to Lt. C.G Sturt in Cairo all returned with "Addressee Reported Prisoner of War" cachets (10) and covers or cards from Sturt held P.O.W in Italy or Germany (4), one to South Africa franked 25pf, the final two recovered by the advancing allies with cachets. Also covers and cards from his brother Cpl. R.G Sturt, a P.O.W held in Italy (6) or Germany (6) all to South Africa, and a letter from "Vatican Radio" with a message from Cpl. Sturt. (30).

658 1941-45 Covers and cards from Gunner K. Boniface to his fiancee Jo Pilcher in London, two 1941 covers posted from Egypt, later items sent as a P.O.W in Italy (22) or Germany (20), many redirected after Miss Pilcher joined the Wrens in 1942. Also 1941-45 covers, letter and photos to Miss D.M Snow in Didcot, three 1941-42 letters from Sgt. A. Lavers R.A.F (killed in 1942, with a telegram stating that he is missing), 1940-44 P.O.W cards from Cpl G.H Dixon held P.O.W in Italy (3) with 20 photos mostly taken in Stalag 344 and associated letters. Two interesting correspondences. Miss Snow was apparently engaged to Sgt Lavers; after his death she became engaged to Cpl Dixon, and they were married in 1945. (71).

666 c.1923 Harrison & Sons sample stamps inscribed "SPECIMEN", imperforate stamps on gummed paper, some watermarked, comprising Chateau de Chillon in three differing colours (29, including a block of ten), St. Nicholas Church Amsterdam in four differing colours (38, with blocks of eight and ten), Belgian type in four colours (34, with two sheets of ten), Tunisian King in two colours (9), Dutch numeral type in two colours (7), Luxembourg type in five colours (33, with two sheets of ten), Robespiere in three colours (20), Javanese girl in three colours (11), Rivadavia in blue, Queen Wilhelmina in five colours (12). These perforated sample stamps were illustrated and described in a 1979 article in "The Philatelist", which stated, "some imperfs were also produced, probably as colour trials and proofs, but these are exceedingly rare". A scarce group with thirty differing designs/colours. (207).
