Sierra Leone. 1894 (May 17) Cover to Sierra Leone with a handwritten request to frank with a 2½d stamp, duly stamped 2½d but underpaid by 5d, the stamp cancelled by cork type K71 with a St. Helena c.d.s
on the front, handstamped "T / (50)c" (Proud UP1, only recorded May-July 1894, earliest recorded example), a "10d" charge mark applied in Sierra Leone (unlisted by Proud but similar in type to UP12/17). Backstamped with Plymouth Ship Letters (June
8), Liverpool and Freetown (July 2) datestamps with a very unusual "2½" handstamp (not seen by us, possibly applied in Sierra Leone, apparently previously unrecorded), endorsed "Refused, 2/7/94, D.F Cole". An exceptional underpaid cover to
