- Sale 639 - consisting of two single owner sales and our "Flagship Series
Sale". This auction will be conducted in New York City in conjunction with
Heritage Auctions at the prestigious Fletcher-Sinclair Mansion overlooking
Central Park.
The catalogs comprising this auction are:
Catalog 1: The Dr. Kurt Benirschke Collection featuring
important German States, Germany, German Offices, Colonies, Plebiscites,
Occupations, Austria, Czechoslovakia, Paraguay and United States. Dr.
Benirschke, a world-renowned pathologist and geneticist has assembled his
lifelong collection with an ever deepening understanding and appreciation
for the “art and science” of stamp collection. His native Germany, along
with related Offices, Colonies, Plebiscites, Occupations and Old German
States were his strongest passions. In addition to Germany, excellent
collections of Austria, Czechoslovakia and Paraguay will be featured along
with his very fine United States collection which includes some excellent
rarities.
Catalog 2: The “Valentine” Collection of Quality United States.
Philately is a unique hobby that has provided a lifetime of excitement,
intrigue and charm to many of us. The basis of this collection has sown the
seeds of that very tale. Mr. “Valentine” collected stamps as a boy
returning to his passion later in life—but this time to form a classic U.S.
collection full of pristine material, amazing condition, and with rarities
such as a gorgeous Scott number 544.

Flagship sales are designed to appeal to a broad range of buyers, whether
